As such, and in a spirit of collaboration, we request that Bill 97 not be reintroduced in the new parliamentary session.

After analyzing the situation, we all come to the same conclusion: the proposed version is unacceptable. Despite our efforts to make our voices heard, the government has persisted in turning a deaf ear, refusing to recognize the value of the solutions we collectively propose.

The status quo is also not an option. However, any new version must fully meet the requirements expressed by First Nations and all stakeholders in the sector. Similarly, a hasty reform would not be beneficial to anyone, especially if it were to remain in effect for several years. We all agree that a new forestry regime must be viewed as a true social project.

A meeting between the Prime Minister, First Nations, and all stakeholders must be organized promptly to discuss and identify a way to reconcile, in a sustainable and equitable manner, the recognition of ancestral rights, the sustainability of the forest and the multiple benefits it provides, biodiversity, and the quality and stability of long-term jobs in the forestry sector.

With respect, kindness, and unity

The AFNQL, its Chiefs Committee on Forests, unions representing more than 20,000 forestry workers, environmental organizations, and Quebec’s ZEC and outfitting federations, which support more than 5,000 jobs, came together for an unprecedented meeting…

[61
87
post-8263","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-environment-and-territory","tag-official-declaration
["GET
